The new Samsung Galaxy S III Mini I8910 is a compact version of the Samsung’s flagship smartphone Samsung Galaxy S3. The handset looks almost identical to the original Galaxy S3 and packs a lot of the features of its flagship sibling, but has a reasonably powerful mid-range internals.

The unlocked Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini is 2G quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) and 3G tri-band 3G UMTS/HSPA 14.4/5.76 Mbps (900/1900/2100 MHz) device. There’s no LTE support. That means it is compatible with GSM carriers like AT&T and T-Mobile in the US and you’ll get 3G on both AT&T and T-Mobile. It will not work on CDMA carriers like Sprint or Verizon Wireless.

The unlocked Galaxy S3 Mini smartphone has an excellent 4-inch Super AMOLED display with WVGA resolution of 800 x 480 pixels and 16M colors depths. The display features accelerometer, gyro, proximity, and compass sensors, but not the ambient light sensor, which means that automatic brightness control is a no-go on the Galaxy S III mini. Bellow the display you get the three keys – capacitive Menu and Back buttons and a regular press Home key. There’s also no secondary microphone here, as there’s no active noise cancellation or stereo sound recording in videos.

This Samsung Galaxy S III Mini measures 4.8 x 2.5 x 0.39 inches (121.55 x 63 x 9.85 mm) and weighs 3.9 ounces (111.5 grams). It is slick and smooth to use and allows a convenient one-hand operation. To live, this full touchscreen handset is supported by 1,500mAh Li-Ion battery which is rated at up to up to 430 hours (3G) and up to 7 hours 10 min (3G) of talk time.

Under the hood, the S3 Mini sports ST-Ericsson NovaThor U8500 chipset (SoC), which features low-power 1 GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor. This chipset features Full HD 1080p camcorder with multiple codecs support for cameras up to 20Mpixel,  HSPA+ multimode modem and a full suite of connectivity, unique audio architecture with a wide range of audio codecs support, high-end 3D graphics accelerator, and more.  Graphics are handled by the ARM Mali 400 GPU and NEON CPU extensions.  There’s 1GB of LP-DDR2 RAM available.

Samsung has replaced the 8-megapixel rear-facing camera of the original Galaxy S3 with a 5-megapixel camera in the Mini. Its camera comes with auto-focus and LED flash and it is able to capture photos at a maximum resolution of 2560 x 1920 pixels and 720p at 30 fps video recording. There is also a VGA front-facing camera for video chats and for self portraits.

The S3 Mini comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and Samsung’s TouchWiz UI Nature UX. There are plenty of features and  software extras in the Galaxy S3 Mini, including face-tracking detection feature, Buddy photo share, Smart Stay, Direct Call, Smart Alert, Pop up play, special power-saving mode and DLNA sharing that helps you transfer content like photos and video between compatible devices, like to your TV. The S3 mini also carries some of the Samsung’s features found on its larger sibling. There’s S Beam, S Voice, S Planner, Samsung’s own app store, and more.

Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S3 Mini smartphones have the same list of connectivity features including dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n networking, DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot capabilities, Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP, LE, EDR, Micro-USB v2.0 port for both data connections and charging (USB host and MHL are not supported), Near Field communications (NFC), GPS with A-GPS support and GLONASS and 3.5mm audio jack.

The Galaxy S3 Mini comes in two storage options, 8GB and 16GB and offer expansion via a microSD card slot up to 32GB.
